It’s been a bit of an ongoing saga, juggling time between being out making photos and spending time in the gallery where folks can peruse the images I make. Volunteers for gallery manning duties are a bit scarce in this busy little town, particularly in the summer when helpers are at a premium.
The good folks at Wings over Whales came up with a perfect solution for me and offered to have the gallery located at their business in the West End. So, after a bit of a drawn out moving process everything is set up in a great location and you don’t have to peer through the windows to see the photographs because no one is manning the shop.

Book a Whale Watch flight while you’re at it, it’s a way cool whale viewing experience.

There is a range of postcards, prints, mounted and framed photography.

A great momento of your time and experiences in Kaikoura.
Drop into the gallery at any time and enjoy viewing the Kaikoura images at your leisure.

Planning is progressing well for a photography tour to Ladakh later in the year. This a great chance for anyone with an interest in photography to have an adventure in an amazing place.
I am fortunate to have a friend of 10 years who has been operating trekking and tours in this region for around 25 years. I visited Ladakh in 2006 and knew I had to share it with fellow photographers. The combination of light, incredible scenery and beautiful people are a great mix for some photography exploration.
The trip will commence in Singapore where we will meet and travel together to Delhi and up to Leh in Ladakh. Numbers will be restricted to around 10 people to ensure a customised and unique experience.
I have planned a workshop outline but this will be fine tuned to the requirements of participants. The goal is to extend your abilities making and presenting your images. Information can be found on the Luminance Ladakh page including the complete itinerary, contact me for further details.

I don’t do running, the thought of plodding countless miles makes my head spin. I’ve tried it a few times and even have a pair of running shoes in my cupboard from the last attempt, it’s just not me. I’d rather sit on a skinny bike seat for hours or walk all day than do running. I have the utmost admiration for anyone who can do running though, I just wish I had the patience and persistence to do it. At Kaikoura last weekend we had a brand spanking new event for people who love to run or walk. Organised and run by the team at Kaikoura Suburban school as a fund raising event it seems to have been a hit with over 160 people competing.

I was going to enter the 10 km walking event (truthfully!) but was called upon to record this great event and what a great time I had. I was amazed at the people who do this running thing. There was Mums and Dads and Kids and Grandmas and Grandads and people I have never seen running before lining up at the start line. They all had that intense daydream like look in their eyes, they were all on a mission to tackle this track of asphalt in front of them and they did. Every one of them. Can you imagine that, some of these people have never walked or run this far before but they challenged themselves to do this. What a feeling it must be to achieve this goal and to start down the road to a new lifestyle, new challenges and that great invincible feeling you get when you complete a project. I’m totally inspired by these people and this event, in fact, I think I’ll get my running shoes out again…..

… and put them on TradeMe so one of these cool people can use them! Well done Suburban School and we look forward to bigger and better next year.
