It should be done more often. A trip to the West Coast is soul cleansing, relaxing and inspirational.
The vast bush and wild beaches seem to soothe you to a state of good feeling. The laid back lifestyle makes you wonder what the big hurry is, unpretentious people, unpretentious buildings – what you see is what you get here.
I especially like the secluded haven of Karamea, snuggled up against the Kahurangi National Park at the end of the road on the northern West Coast, this is the ultimate ‘away from it all’ spot. There’s something for all out doors folk here, or just relax and soak up the tranquility. Just get ready to have a sore arm from waving back to all the locals as you drive through the area though!
